Linked to article about communications technology. When i was in the military I worked as a ground radio repairman. And we had all kinds of radios and supporting equipment. To put it bluntly when I first started working with our radios, I wondered why was everything so big and heavy and why they called it mobile. Yeah they had a lot of awesome features, but like the article says it took time to set it up, heavy, and some what impractical to carry around, even in a backpack. I remember saying with the commercial technology we had back in 2006, we should have better radios than what we had at the moment. Anyways the article is pretty spot on from my experiences on why military communications equipment is a mess.
